Carter F. Bales
Chairman, NewWorld Capital Group

Carter Bales is Chairman of NewWorld Capital Group, LLC, a private equity firm focused on the environmental opportunities sector (www.newworldcapital.net).  Prior to forming NewWorld, he was Managing Partner Emeritus at The Wicks Group of Companies, a private equity firm, and earlier was a Director at McKinsey & Company, where he founded the Firm’s practices in environmental management and state and local government. 

A longstanding conservationist, Mr. Bales has also focused on the policy and economics of climate change (see his co-authored article, Containing Climate Change, in the September-October issue of Foreign Affairs).  In 2007, he worked with McKinsey to prepare the report entitled Reducing U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: How Much at What Cost? 

Mr. Bales is past Vice Chairman and Governor Emeritus of The Nature Conservancy, a trustee of The Nature Conservancy, a trustee of the Grand Canyon Trust, vice chair of the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation, a commissioner of GLOBE International on Land Use Change & Ecosystems, a member of the Advisory Council to NRDC’s Center for Market Innovation, Founding Chair of the North Shore Land Alliance, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  In 1972, he was the Democratic nominee to Congress in the Third Congressional District. 

Carter Bales graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
