ACG Members hit the slopes at Stratton Mountain on February 26-28th for our first ever ACG Stratton Ski Networking Event. The idea was simple, bring ACG members to a world class resort to network over a period of 3 days. Attending were private equity and investment banking firms, lenders, and service professionals. The event included 2 dinners, 1 apres ski, and networking at the exclusive Stratton Mountain Club. Next years event is tentatively scheduled for January 28-30th and will include members from other ACG Chapters.
    Robert L. Friedman
Our February program featured Robert Friedman, Senior Managing Director. Since 1985, without deviating from Blackstone's core beliefs, the firm has raised over $35 billion for alternative asset investing across its Private Equity, Real Estate, Corporate Debt, and Marketable Alternative Investments groups. The Corporate Advisory Services and Restructuring & Reorganization Advisory Services businesses have handled assignments valued at over $450 billion. Through March 31st, 2005, Blackstone had invested total capital of $16.6 billion in 265 transactions with a total enterprise value of over $135 billion through its Private Equity and Real Estate funds and nearly $2.6 billion in almost 360 different senior loan and other debt instruments through its Corporate Debt funds.
    Andrew Janower
Our first event at the Roosevelt Hotel was met by great reviews for the food, location, and our speaker. Andrew (AJ) Janower, Managing Director of Charlesbank Capital kept the room riveted with details covering the equity and financial markets. We have provided a link for those that wanted copies of his fantastic presentation.
I also just learned that AJ's daughter, Samantha was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor 2 years ago. After completing chemotherapy she has been able to stabilize the tumor. AJ and his wife Cindy in order to progress brain tumor research has set up a fund to underwrite grants.

On May 21, Team Samantha will sponsor a 25-50 mile "Ride for Research," in the Boston area. You can learn more about this event at www.janower.net.

ACG-NY held its 2nd annual Monte Carlo/Awards Night at Tavern on the Green. Featuring specialty drinks from our liquor sponsor Ciroc, Tanquerray and Johnnie Walker Red, I can dutifully inform you that no one was in any pain the entire night. Our grand prize winner for a 5-day trip to Monte Carlo was won by Peter Wyman of Merrill Corporation. We also handed out our unique ACG awards to those that have led committees in 2005 and have gone the full mile to help ACG in its dramatic growth in 2005.
Our 2nd Annual China Conference took place at the Sky Club in New York City to a sold out crowd. Attached is an excellent article that recaps the China Conference.
NEW YORK, January 10, 2006 – On the heels of strong M&A transaction levels in 2005, the most ever – 91% – of New York investment bankers, private equity professionals, and corporate executives surveyed in the ACG/Thomson DealMaker’s Survey say the current environment for mergers and acquisitions and corporate growth is good or excellent. This is a 5% jump from the June 2005 survey results.
Please welcome Merrill Corporation as our Platinum sponsor for our 2005/2006 Program Year. Merrill has also agreed to sponsor mostly every ACG event during the year...which actually qualifies it as a Super Platinum sponsor. We thank them for allowing ACG to be able to put on quality programming and events that will benfit both our membership as well as our sponsor.
Merrill is a diversified communication and document service company applying advanced information systems and Intranet/Internet technology to provide a broad range of services to financial, legal and corporate clients. Through this comprehensive agreement Merrill seeks to create awareness within ACG-NY for its DataSite online virtual deal room software for due diligence, along with its printing capabilities and translation services.

What makes ACG-NY a thriving and growing networking organization? It's our Executive Board and Board of Directors. So, next time you run into them (they have a ribbon on their badges), ask them how you can get involved in ACG. A new board will be selected next January 2007. Board members are selected in part by their activity in supporting ACG. You don't need to be a Director to participate...Have an idea, submit an article, know someone who should join ACG, or a programming idea...send me a note and I'll get back to you.
